Minimal Stereoscopic Analysis for Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope Arrays
نویسنده
چکیده
The trajectory of a primary γ-ray detected with an array of at least four atmospheric Cherenkov imaging telescopes can be reconstructed from the shower image centroid positions and geometrical considerations independent of the primary energy. Using only the image centroid positions some cosmic-ray discrimination is also possible. This minimal approach opens the possibility of pushing the analysis threshold to lower values, close to the hardware threshold.

متن کاملIntercalibration of Cherenkov Telescopes in Telescope Arrays
A simple analysis technique is described which allows to intercalibrate the response of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes in stereoscopic telescope arrays at a level of 1-2%. With the next-generation imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes currently under construction, stereoscopic arrays of telescopes such as VERITAS [1], CANGAROO III [2] and H.E.S.S. [3] play a dominant role. Stereosc...

CANGAROO-III is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) array of four 10 m telescopes for very high energy (sub-TeV) gamma-ray astronomy. A design study of Preprint submitted to Elsevier Preprint 1 August 2001 the CANGAROO-III telescope system was carried out using the Monte Carlo technique in order to optimize the pixel size and the telescope spacing. Studies were also made of observ...
متن کاملStatus of an Atmospheric Cherenkov Imaging Camera for the CANGAROO–III Experiment and Perspective of the Field
CANGAROO–III is an experiment aiming at studying the properties of very high energy gamma rays from celestial objects in the southern sky. We use an array of 4 imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes in Australia. The observation with the first telescope (CANGAROO–II) started in 1999 and the data have been analyzed. The second telescope was constructed in 2002 and stereoscopic observations sta...
متن کاملCangaroo Masaki Mori for the Cangaroo-ii,iii Team ∗
The CANGAROO-III telescope system for very-high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics consists of four 10 m atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes located near Woomera, South Australia. The construction of the fourth telescope was completed in summer 2003, and stereoscopic observations with a local trigger system started in March 2004. Here we report on the status of the system and preliminary results from s...
